Intraprenuership with Design Thinking and Tech

With design thinking’s emphasis on quick prototyping and small-steps innovation, it has been promoted by companies to foster internal innovation and encourage employees to realise innovative ideas that brings new value to its core business.

Sinovation is a programme of Sino Group that encourages its creative teams to propose innovations for the company’s real estate management and operation. In a two-day programme co-hosted with Institute of Design Knowledge (IDK) and Cyberport, Sinovation has its teams come together to gain an intensive but hands-on experience of the design thinking process, plus a mentorship session coached by tech experts, which helped the teams further enhance their ideas via the knowledge of design and tech.

The workshop designed by IDK put participants to a challenge to tackle real estate management and operation issues of a resort hotel, using design thinking as a way to quickly ideate and prototype effective solutions as intrapreneurs. They identified stakeholder relationships, their pain points and come up with ideas that not only fulfil their expectations and needs, but also explored future possibilities of real estate services empowered by good design and technology.

Ideas ranged from more customer-friendly automated services that are adaptive to different customer personas and their user journeys, to smart facilities monitoring and feedback systems that greatly reduces the stress and workload of staff, etc. In the later part of the workshop, the Sinovation teams were able to bring their innovative ideas to mentors from Cyberport companies, who inspired on how smart technology can help them bring their ideas to life.
