Design x Tech: Building Innovation Capabilities to Tackle Hong Kong’s City Challenges

 

In 2021, IDK continued the collaboration with MIT Hong Kong Innovation Node to offer workshops for participants from various fields and expertise, especially from Hong Kong’s tech community, and encourage them to incorporate design thinking into the innovation process, ultimately contribute to strengthening the city's innovation capabilities.


Future of Art-Tech in Kowloon East

This workshop aimed to unveil and discover the new possibilities that Art Tech can bring into the performing arts industry by the mindful collaboration between traditional artisanship and modern technology.  This one-day design thinking workshop co-hosted by MIT HK Innovation Node, Cyberport  and IDK brings together expertise from both fields – Arts and Tech – to co-create via an interactive workshop. Participants were able to have an intense, hands-on experience of the Double Diamond innovation process.


The City I&T Grand Challenge "Train-the-Trainers" Workshop

The City I&T Grand Challenge (the Grant Challenge) engaged people from all walks of life to submit innovative ideas and transform them into impactful solutions tackling big picture issues, discovering creative solutions, and moving the city forward into the future.

As the Knowledge Partner of “Train-the-Trainers” workshop, IDK partnered with the MIT HK Node to train around 300 teachers from primary and secondary schools to use design thinking to solve a city challenge. Through experiencing stages of design thinking with the focus on improving environmental sustainability and social connection, the workshop equipped teachers with skills and knowledge to coach their students to derive innovative I&T solutions for the Grand Challenge, and empowered them to be the next great innovators of Hong Kong.
